There are so many ways in which the arts can add to our daily lives. Greenwich House Pottery offers different ways to make an art connection in either your professional or personal life:
- Birthday parties: A great party idea for budding artists and energetic kids alike. Because clay is immediately responsive to a child’s touch and imagination, it allows for every child's success. By learning basic techniques, kids can have fun while making a variety of forms. Parties are designed to meet your child’s interests, are led by a certified instructor, and last 1 1/2 hours. Refreshments and/or decorations can also be provided for an additional fee. Basic fee: $45 per child, 6 child minimum.
- Team Building Workshops–Private Classes–Semi-Private Classes: Connect with your staff, friends and family members on a different level and try something new. Our instructors will teach novices and naturals how to use the potter’s wheel, hand build a teapot, or make tiles. We can develop 1-day workshops and private parties from 2 to 4 hours for groups up to 20 and provide catering for an additional fee. We can also match you and your friends with an instructor to lead individual or semi-private classes focusing on general skill development or a specific technique from beginning wheel throwing to glazing techniques for all levels. Basic workshop, party and semi-private classes: $45 per person, 2-hour minimum. Private classes: $55 per hour, 2-hour minimum.
- Outreach:Greenwich House Pottery has partnered with several public schools and private organizations. Our partnerships include: hosting special therapeutic workshops and classes for those in-need; providing energetic and innovative ceramic artists to lead clay-based projects in the public and private school sectors; and providing assessment and training for schools to develop their own, self-sustainable ceramic based art programs. Our partners include affiliated programs of Greenwich House, Inc. such as AIDS Mental Health, Senior Center, and Barrow Street Nursery School and outside organizations and schools like River East Elementary School, NY Cares, Children of Bellevue Hospital, Arts Connection, and Rita Project*. If you’d like to discuss possibilities for your child’s school or favorite organization, please contact the Programs Manager. *Rita Project is a 501c3 non-profit organization devoted to using the arts to help survivors of suicide get in touch with the power of creation, Tel.866.775.RITA, www.ritaproject.org
- Group Tours and Demonstrations:Our commitment to sharing through the arts is extended when we open our doors to groups and schools wishing to visit the Pottery. Our history, day-to-day events like firing kilns, talking with an exhibiting artist, seeing a potter demonstrate throwing on the wheel, watching students work in the studios, is an inspiring look at the way art ‘happens’ in the community. Basic tours are free; more extensive, hands-on tours are individually priced. If you’d like to discuss bringing a group to the Pottery, please contact the Programs Manager.
- Space Rentals: If you’re looking for an unusual location for a special meeting or an intimate gathering, consider our Jane Hartsook Gallery, an elegant, neo-classical, 400 sq. ft. space complete with fireplace, floor-to-ceiling windows, and lots of light. Across the hall, the Madeline Sadin Room–with its terra cotta floor and counters–can be used for slide presentations or as an overflow space for the gallery. Additionally, the Pottery can be used as a film location site. Rates and schedule of availability varies, please contact us for additional information.
