Toddler Programs at Barrow Street

Barrow Street Toddler Programs are for children aged turning 2 (turning 2 between June 1 - before school starts - and January 31). They are specifically designed to promote independence, autonomy and language development. Research shows that emotional security is the true foundation of learning and this class stimulates children’s social, physical and cognitive development while safeguarding that security.

We believe young children learn best through early socialization and our teachers create environments that enrich children's play. They will model how to extend your child's play by demonstrating when to intervene with questions, suggestions and challenges.

Encouraging self-discovery through a relaxed environment, our classes focus on the process of learning rather than the product. Through play, tactile experiences, art explorations, stories, gross motor activities and music children develop positive techniques for guidance and discipline. The classrooms are arranged so young children can lead their own play and be active participants in their own discoveries.

Toddler Classes

These year-long, pre-nursery school programs meet two or three times a week to stimulate children's social, physical and cognitive development while safeguarding their emotional security. Encouraging self-discovery in a relaxed environment, children learn to follow simple routines for class structure, developing a sense of comfort in their new environment.

Separation Classes: As children gain comfort in their new surroundings, throughout the fall semester, adults gradually step back and allow their child to fully focus on their daily activities, budding friendships and their new found independence. Once children are comfortable, caregivers slowly begin to separate. Parents will have the opportunity to participate in discussion-based workshops with our developmental psychologist on topics such as discipline, language development, potty training and sibling relationships.
