We work hard to ensure all our students are placed in the right educational environment when they move into kindergarten. Finding and applying to the right school can be daunting at times for New York City families. Therefore, when it's time to think about the next step beyond BSNS, our teachers and staff support and guide our families through this process, known as exmissions.
Exmissions Process
We work very closely with our families who are participating in the ongoing school application process. To ensure that that parents have ample time before the fall to research prospective schools and prepare, beginning in the spring of the 3s year, we invite all parents to a group meeting where we provide general information that is needed for applying to private and public schools. Additionally, we use data collected from multiple observations of each child to help guide conversations regarding the schools families could consider for their child’s on-going educational experience.
After parents have toured a majority of their preferred schools, a follow-up meeting is scheduled to discuss school options. The senior director is available to meet with parents on an as-needed basis thereafter. We are committed to providing families with the support and guidance needed during this process.
ERB Testing
Most independent schools require applicants to take the Educational Records Bureau test (ERB). The ERB is a uniform educational assessment tool that eliminates testing at each school to which a child may be applying and provides score reports to all schools selected. Information about ERB test can be found on their website.
An ERB tester is assigned to BSNS for in-school testing, relieving parents of this testing-appointment task and provides children a chance to acquaint themselves with the tester.
