The trained professionals at Greenwich House know that most of their clients face a daily struggle to stay substance free and grapple with difficulties far greater than simply chemical dependency. They also combat joblessness, homelessness and incarceration. The vocational training we provide is one of the tools that helps them reach success. In fact, the program’s success rate of clients discontinuing drug use is over 70%; more than 40% are improving their employment status. We still have a lot of work to do. While there have been many improvements in treatment, the mental health repercussions of aging with AIDS are still emerging. Since the 1980s, Greenwich House has been providing individual and group therapy for people living with HIV and AIDS, along with support for their families. Our goal is to provide a safe place for those New Yorkers who need this highly specialized mental health treatment from therapists who understand their unique needs. Access to this most important and often overlooked element of care is critical for survival.

In New York City, over 59,000 cases of child abuse are reported annually. At the Children’s Safety Project, our expert therapists have been treating victims of abuse and domestic violence since 1987 with the goal to end the vicious cycle of abuse and give clients and their families the tools they need to regain a healthy life.

The cost to provide quality care for the clients of the Senior Health and Consultation is less than $8,000 per person annually and helps seniors remain in their homes, while the cost for the government to institutionalize a senior with a similar profile is $74,445 per year.

NYC funds for arts have been drastically reduced at city schools over the past five years; funds for musical instruments and other art supplies dropped by 68 percent between 2006 and 2010. Since 1905 Greenwich House Music has championed American music; Thomson, Varèse, Cowell, and Ives among others were all part of the Greenwich House Music scene. Today, through the North River Music series, (est. 1985) we continue to provide fresh impetus to the performance of new and experimental music. Premiers and recent works by living American composers, artists and ensembles specializing in contemporary music are presented for free or minimal cost. Your support of the concert series helps ensure the continuance of the rich arts culture of Greenwich Village.
