Eager to try your hand at working with clay? Whether you're an experienced potter or haven't touched clay since grade school, Greenwich House Pottery has a class for you:
- Fall, winter, and spring semester courses. All courses at GHP are hands-on, studio classes that introduce and refine one’s understanding of ceramics. These skill-based courses have been developed to provide rounded instruction in ceramic processes. However, in the course of one’s study, the learning of new skills or refining techniques is seen as a means for the development of one’s creativity–the ability to conceive, construct and realize ideas and share them with others. Individual assistance is provided in each class, helping students develop at their own pace within a focused format or on individually determined projects.
In addition, we offer Sunday Studio Practice ($400 per semester or $40 per day) for Intermediate and Advanced Students who wish to work independently in our studios.
Children’s Classes are offered throughout the school year and during the summer term. Please review our Exhibitions, Events and Happenings, and Opportunities listings for other ways to enhance your learning experience.
- Summer Master Series. The Summer Master Series offers students intensive 2-day and 4-day programs designed to inform, inspire, and cultivate interests. The workshops are developed by visiting artists and Greenwich House Pottery instructors to encourage dialogue and offer an opportunity for hands-on work and historical and technical information.
Our studios are equipped with 17 wheels, 2 gas kilns, 4 electric kilns, a slab roller, clay mixer and pugmill, two extruders, and a spray booth. We offer 5 clay bodies - white stoneware, throwing stoneware, sculpture stoneware, red earthenware, and porcelain (available for purchase at $16 per 25-pound bag). We maintain a large selection of glazes, slips and washes; and offer both high and low temperature firing (cone 04 & cone 10). Firing fees are calculated at 4 cents per cubic inch which includes both bisque and glaze firings.
In addition to the class and faculty information found on this site, class syllabi and complete faculty resumes are available in the Pottery office.
