Greenwich House Pottery has several programs to help individual artists learn more about process, materials, and career options. Below are descriptions and application forms for the:

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM

The Pottery’s Artist-in-Residence program facilitates an artist’s ability and capacity to experiment, explore and develop new work he or she would otherwise be unable to approach on his or her own. Two private studio spaces are available for Resident Artists from August 4 through September 9. Resident Artists have 24-hour access to the studios and the premises at large. All stocked materials and firings are also offered free of charge. Residencies are presently offered during the summer only due to space and funding limitations.

  • Application deadline: January 15 for the coming summer
  • Required materials: resume, a maximum of 25 slides or digital images on a CD, proposal description, 3 references, SASE
  • Residency application

STUDIO ASSISTANT RESIDENCY PROGRAM

The 2-year Studio Assistant residency is an ideal opportunity for a developing artist who is looking for a place to pursue focused work, while gaining important technical and teaching skills. Applicants should be enthusiastic and dedicated to their artwork, enjoy working with other people in a community studio setting, and have a working knowledge of the ceramic medium. Previous experience working in a ceramics studio is strongly preferred.

Studio Assistants work 15 hours per week loading and firing kilns, making clay and glazes, unloading material deliveries, and performing other duties. In addition, they assist with the production of benefit events and are often asked to offer technical or creative advice to students. Studio Assistants receive 24-hour access to a shared private studio space and the Pottery’s premises at large. All stocked materials and firings are free of charge. Studio Assistants are also eligible for free enrollment in classes and workshops throughout the year.

  • Application deadline: May 1 for fall start date
  • Required materials: resume, 20 slides maximum, letter of interest, 2 references, SASE
  • Studio Assistant application

SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM

The Summer Intern program offers developing artists short-term work experience in the Pottery’s studio or arts administration areas. Interns assist with a variety of hands-on projects, from studio-oriented tasks, including kiln firing and mixing clay, to facility repairs such as painting, to administrative and gallery related projects. In the process, interns are exposed to the day-to-day activities of a thriving community based arts organization and given the chance to pursue their ceramic work. Internships are generally scheduled from August 1 through September 10, during which time they have access to a shared studio space and all stocked materials and firings are available free of charge.

  • Applications deadline: April 15 for the coming summer
  • Required materials: resume, 15- 20 slides, letter of interest, 2 references, SASE
  • Summer Intern application
