Greenwich House Pottery has been a non-profit community art center since 1909.
In our founding days, the Pottery sought to teach immigrants a marketable skill, following the tenets of the Arts and Crafts movement. Then, our patrons included Marshall Field, Mrs. Harry Payne Whitney, John D. Rockefeller, Jr., and others who knew the vital role arts play in our culture and community.
Now, the Pottery is ever more essential as a vibrant center for community and fine arts. A visit reveals children and parents collaborating on a clay train… a senior citizen enjoying the camaraderie of friends while working on an abstract sculpture… an exhibition in exploring experimental uses of the ceramic medium.
Today, after almost 100 years, with more than 35 classes, as well as workshops, exhibitions, and lectures–we’ve enriched the lives of tens of thousands of New Yorkers and visitors. |
