Each year, BSNS does a school-wide project to celebrate Earth Day in addition to individual class projects. This year the school focused on our roof top garden and planting with the children. Each child brought in an old shoe, sneaker, crock or boot from home to decorate so the shoes could be made into planters.
The teachers helped the children decorate their shoes and then to fill the shoes will potting soil and seeds. Each class planted various herbs such as basil, dill, marjoram, thyme and chamomile that the teachers will use for science and cooking activities in the classroom. The shoes are currently on display in the school along with photos of the children working. The shoes will be added to the rooftop garden where the students can continue to care for them.
